Junior umpire program

DO YOU LIKE TO BE IN CHARGE?

The SMGS Junior Umpire Program offers those 12 years or older, in their second year of 12U, the opportunity to umpire games in our younger age divisions. You will: 

  • Receive umpire training and learn the rules of the game from an advanced perspective. 
  • Act as a mentor our younger SMGS players can look up to. 
  • Get paid!

WHAT’S REQUIRED?

All Junior Umpire applicants will be required to attend these trainings:

  • Mechanics Clinic: January 30, 2026  530pm-730pm @ Bradley Park
  • Mechanics Clinic: February 7, 2026 10am-12pm @ Bradley Park

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

  • SMGS Junior Umpire Program Informational Meeting (parent and participant): To be scheduled in January
  • Umpire equipment provided
  • SMGS Board Member present at all games that use Junior Umpire(s) to offer support and interpretation of rules
  • USA Softball registration and insurance coordinated by SMGS
  • “Zero tolerance” policy enforced for any disparaging coach and crowd behavior directed at the Junior Umpires
