FOR REC BALL MANAGERS:
Each of the managers in the 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U has the opportunity to participate in choosing the All-Star teams this year. Plan for a big day on Saturday, May 1st.
We are asking all of the managers to be at the tryouts to evaluate the girls during a working practice/evaluation and help us pick the best 15 – 30 girls for the Gold and Silver Teams with some being alternate. Teams will be drafted on Saturday, following evaluations for your particular age division. Alternates will also be chosen since Managers are not picked yet and girls will have the option to decline to play if they wish. While we hope this will not be an issue, we have to plan for it. By Saturday Night, the teams & Managers will be selected and parents called. Please be prepared, as the next day, Sunday, there will be a mandatory all-star parent meeting.
Preparations for Tryouts
I am asking that each of you take the time to see the girls play some other teams so you might know a little about each of the girls prior to seeing them the day of tryouts. Please take a minute and look at the schedule to see when you can get to a game for the other teams. You should refrain from talking about WHO you are interested in seeing tryout and you should also not talk to the parents about their interest prior to May 1st. This is an ASA Rule and we want to follow this rule at all times. You are welcome to invite your entire team to tryout but you should not ask a specific girl to try out. Under no circumstances are managers, parents, coaches, etc. allowed to discuss individual girls when referring to All Stars prior to May 1st. This rule is enforced on the honor system so let's do our best to follow the rule.
Day of Tryouts
On May 1st the girls will be run through a series of drills that should be pretty extensive so you can see their abilities. There will be the standard hitting drills, fielding drills, throwing drills and agility (running drills). You will be given a roster with the girl’s names and a place for add-ons if there are any. You will be asked to vote by secret ballot. If we are drafting 1 team you will provide 15 names each. If we are drafting 2 teams you will provide a list of 30 girls.
By May 1st each Manager should have a good idea of who they will likely nominate. There will NOT be an opportunity to "go home and think about it". This is not a group exercise and will be done by secret ballot to let Managers vote how they wish without others knowing. You should make sure the Gold Team has pitching & catching.
After drafting the 1st team – Gold, the Silver Team will be drafted.
Manager Selection
Once tryouts are completed, and the girls have been selected, the board will choose managers in a closed session board meeting, Saturday night.
